Cookie Policy
1. Introduction
Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies in compliance with the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC, as amended by 2009/136/EC), GDPR (EU 2016/679), Belgian Law of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications, and German Telemedia Act (Telemediengesetz - TMG). A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your device when you visit a website.
2. Types of Cookies and Storage We Use
We keep our use of cookies and local storage to a strict minimum. We use only the following two categories:
- Strictly Necessary (Art. 5(3) ePrivacy Directive exemption): Essential for the website to function. They are only set in response to actions you take, such as filling in forms. These do not require consent because they are strictly necessary to provide the service you have explicitly requested.
- Functional: These remember choices you make to personalize your experience — specifically your light/dark theme preference. The value is kept in your browser using local storage, and only when you toggle the theme yourself, so no separate consent banner is required.
We do not use advertising or targeting cookies, and we do not use analytics cookies — our analytics platform (Matomo) is cookieless (see Section 5).
3. Cookie Inventory
Below is a detailed list of cookies we use:
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Stores your theme preference (light/dark mode) | Persistent | Functional |
4. Your Choices and Rights
Under EU and Belgian/German law, consent is required before placing non-essential cookies on your device. Because we set only strictly necessary and functional storage — and our analytics are cookieless — we place no consent-requiring cookies and therefore display no cookie consent banner. You remain in full control:
- Functional Preferences: Your theme preference is stored locally in your browser and can be cleared at any time.
- Browser Settings: You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies and clear local storage, or to alert you when websites set or access them. Please note that if you do so, some conveniences (such as remembering your theme) may not function as expected.
5. Analytics & Third-Party Cookies
We use Matomo Analytics, a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics platform operated on our own infrastructure at stats.euraika.net. Our Matomo deployment is configured cookieless — it sets no tracking cookies and stores nothing on your device, collecting only aggregated, anonymous usage data; your data never leaves our infrastructure and is never shared with third parties. Because Matomo stores no information on your device and cannot identify you, it does not require consent under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, and it loads automatically when you visit the site.
6. How to Manage Cookies
You can control and manage cookies in various ways:
- Browser Settings: Most browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies. Instructions for popular browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
- Opt-Out Tools: You can use industry opt-out tools such as www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU) or www.aboutads.info.
7. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
